The Antara Teacher Training programme was established in 2005 and was accredited by the Open College Network Wales (now called Agored Cymru). Having taught on other teacher training courses Geoff wanted to set up a course that would give students as much structured teaching practise as possible. Consequently, peer group teaching goes on throughout the training weekends and, by the conclusion of the course, through open classes the students will have taught regular guided sessions giving them first-hand knowledge and experience of teaching in public.
The course is structured over two years and covers a 200-hour learning period. There are six units covered over the two years; three in each year requiring two weekends of training for each unit. Payment is made at each of the weekends to cover the full cost of the course. Attendance at a regular weekly yoga class is also a requirement The units covered range from Anatomy and Physiology to Class Planning and cover the range of work required to teach with safety and confidence. An interim certificate after the first year when the first three units are completed allows the student to obtain temporary Public Liability insurance in order to gain practical teaching experience should they wish to do this. A final certificate issued on completion of the course will also offer full Public Liability cover.
The course is generally run in the Caernarfon area but where demand is generated the course can be run elsewhere. For full details of the syllabus and costs please use our contact us page.
